Mammootty, Kartik Aaryan, Yami Gautam receive National Film Awards

Indian cinema’s leading stars and filmmakers were honoured at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Gujarat on Tuesday, with Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan sharing the Best Actor award, while Yami Gautam won Best Actress.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards at a ceremony held at Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, marking the first time the National Film Awards were presented outside Delhi. Veteran actor Anant Nag received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
Mammootty won Best Actor for his performance in Bramayugam, while Kartik Aaryan received the honour for Chandu Champion. Yami Gautam was named Best Actress for Article 370, which also won Best Feature Film.
Randeep Hooda received the Best Debut Film of a Director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, while Sanjay Mishra was honoured as Best Supporting Actor for Bhakshak. Rajkumar Periasamy won Best Director for Amaran.
Dhanush’s Raayan was honoured as the Best Tamil Film, while Captain Miller won the award for Best Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values. Dhanush also received a Special Mention for his performance.
The awards recognised achievements across several languages and categories, reflecting the regional and cultural diversity of Indian cinema. The government has also announced that future National Film Awards ceremonies will be held in different cities across the country.
